EQUIPMENT
In
addition to the fleet of fire suppression vehicles the department has at it's
disposal a wide range of tools and equipment to make protecting your lives and
property safer and more efficient and effective. For example each firefighter
has a self-contained breathing apparatus(SCBA) providing a thirty minute source of clean
breathing air to insure that they are not inhaling toxic fire gasses that would
be hazardous to their health. Each SCBA has a Personal Alert Device that sounds
an alarm should the firefighter remain motionless for more than thirty seconds.
Each
firefighter is equiped with National Fire Protection Agency approved protective
bunker gear including; boots, helmet, gloves, eye protection, coat and pants.
This apperal is fire, heat and water resistent.
Two portable water tanks that
can be setup in less than three minutes allow the holding of twenty-seven hundred
gallons of water on scene freeing the tanker to be enroute for additional water.
This is especially important at remote, rural scenes
A gasoline powered ventilation
fan aids in freeing a structure of toxic gasses and smoke thus allowing firefighters
to enter a safer environment for internal attack and mop-up.
Portable generator
and lights are available for scene lighting during nighttime operations.
A
K-12 chain saw and demolition saw allow the easy ventilation of structures to
aid in the removal of smoke and toxic gasses.
The fire ground working environment
is continually monitered by the safety officer with a multi-gas detector to insure
that safety is not compromised.
A handheld, portable radio is issued to each
firefighter to ensure effective communication at all times.
